Climate Action Plan
Environmental sustainability is one of the key strategic priorities at Meadow Green. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and inspiring positive climate action throughout our school community.
Over recent years, Meadow Green has taken important steps towards becoming a more sustainable school by reducing emissions, enhancing biodiversity and encouraging environmental awareness among our pupils.
To support this work, we are establishing a Sustainability Working Group consisting of:
- The Headteacher
- School Finance Manager
- Eco-School Leader
- Buildings and Health & Safety Governors
This group will oversee the school’s sustainability initiatives and future environmental developments.
Our first major action has been the creation of a Climate Action Plan, which will be published in Autumn 2025.
What We Have Achieved So Far
We are proud of the progress already made across the school, including:
- Establishing an Eco Team of pupils to support our Eco-Schools accreditation
- Replacing lighting throughout the First Phase classrooms with energy-efficient LED lighting
- Auditing our curriculum to identify opportunities for outdoor learning and sustainability themes
- Measuring the school’s carbon footprint
- Developing a partnership with the Woodrush High School Academy community group to explore opportunities linked to sustainability, biodiversity and decarbonisation
- Undertaking projects to enhance biodiversity within our wooded area, wildlife pond and cottage garden
- Installing bee hotels around the school grounds to support solitary bees
- Planting pollinator-friendly flowers and wildflower areas to encourage bees and butterflies
- Creating learning opportunities for pupils to understand the importance of bees within our ecosystem
- Reducing pesticide use in outdoor areas to help protect pollinators and local wildlife
Through these initiatives, we aim to empower our pupils to become environmentally responsible citizens and help create a more sustainable future for our community.
