PE

A statement of intent for PE at Meadow Green

At Meadow Green Primary School, the intent of our PE curriculum is to deliver a varied and inclusive curriculum that will engage all pupils and maximise their ability and achievement in all areas of PE. We aim to deliver PE lessons via high-quality teaching that will enable our learners to know more about physical activity and keeping healthy, remember more about the physical activity they participate in and learn about and understand how to use and apply this knowledge to impact upon their own physical activity, participation and healthy lifestyle.

We believe that every lesson has a key learning element which will enable our pupils to make good progress as they journey through the school. We will teach the children how to work with others as part of a team, understand fairness and good sportsmanship in order to embed lifelong values. Our PE curriculum is set out in a way that will build upon skills learnt from EYFS to Upper Key Stage 2. We are able to provide this progression through a varied programme of different sports and skills, including swimming. It is our intention that our Year 6 pupils leave our school being able to swim at least 25 metres.

At Meadow Green we have always provided rich opportunities for PE in the form of extra-curricular clubs and since the pandemic are beginning to offer a good range of clubs for our pupils to further their PE education.
